国际英语资讯:Slovenian presidential election set for Oct. 22
LJUBLJANA, Aug. 11 -- Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Milan Brglez, has set the date of this year's presidential election for Oct. 22.
The five-year term of Slovenia's current President Borut Pahor expires on Dec. 22, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA). The next term is for 2024 to 2024.
The parliamentary speaker explained that Oct. 22 was the earliest possible date to hold the election, as that was when procedures related to the Sept. 24 referendum on a rail upgrade project ended.
All presidential candidates must be presented at least 25 days before the election, the STA report quoted Brglez as saying. The new president will be inaugurated on Dec. 22.
Brglez made the official statement at a news conference on Friday.
