  Text 4

M:Is the girl over there in red Alice?

  W:No. That's Linda, Alice's cousin.

  M:They look a little alike.

W:Many people think so. But Linda's sister Ann looks more like Alice.

  Text 5

W:Ted,where have you been? Mr Black needs your report now.

M:I went to see a customer in the conference room.

W:Explain that to Mr Black. He's still waiting for you in his office.

  M:I'll go immediately.

  Text 6

W:How did you like the match last night?

M:I haven't enjoyed such a great match for years. But it was a pity that I watched it alone.

W:Didn't Jenny watch it with you?

  M:She never watches football matches.

W:But didn't she often watch matches with you before you got married?

  M:Women change !

  Text 7

  W:What is troubling you?

M:I don't know how to solve this math problem. Could you help me?

W:Are you kidding? I also need help with my studies. Why not ask Tom for help? He knows everything about math.

M:But he is not in the classroom now. He went out with Alice a moment ago.

  W:Where did they go?

M:They went to the language club. They are learning Spanish now.

W:Don't you know Spanish? You can teach him and he can help you with your math.

M:That sounds like a good idea.

  Text 8

W:Excuse me,could you tell me the way to the nearest hospital?

M: Sure. Go down this street. Turn right at the second crossing. You can't miss it. It's between a post office and a school.

W:Oh, it seems far from here.

M:Yes. It's about half an hour's walk. If you take a bus,it will take you ten minutes or so. But I don't know when the next bus will come.

W:Oh, I see. But my baby is seriously ill. I have to take him to see a doctor as soon as possible.

M:Then you'd better take a taxi. It will save you a lot of time.

W:You're right. Thank you very much.

  M:You're welcome.

  Text 9

W:Did you enjoy your time with Jenny last Saturday?

M:Not so much. We went boating in the afternoon. The weather was fine at first, but then it became windy. It was quite dangerous. Jenny almost fell into the water.

W:Why didn't you check the weather report?

M:I didn't expect there would be wind.

W:You are not careful. You haven't done enough to show your love for Jenny.

M:I guess you are right. Jenny didn't look happy after we came back. I invited her to go to see a movie with me tomorrow, but she said she would stay with her grandma instead.

  W:She has a good reason.

M:You mean she's angry with me?

W:No. Jenny hasn't seen her grandma for months and she loves her grandma very much. So she of course wants to spend some time together with her.

  M:What should I do?

W:Spend some time with her grandma too, of course. That will please Jenny.

  M:I'll follow your advice.

  Text 10

There is a very special dog that lives in Africa. It is called the African wild dog. These animals live in open woodlands, or in the plains of Africa. Today most of these animals can be found in eastern or southern Africa. These animals are beautiful. They have rounded ears and have four toes on each of their four feet. Their fine fur is always different from each other. The fur usually has different colors, so they are also called “the painted wolf”. African wild dogs live in groups that number from five to about twenty. The members of a group are always very close to one another. They communicate with their barking or body language. When someone is very old or sick, the others will help, and they are willing to share food with the elderly and with those who are weak. The family does everything together, from raising young to hunting. When they hunt, they will work together to kill large animals. They also like to eat farm animals. This is unfortunate because they are often shot because of that. Today, there are very few African wild dogs in the wild. In the past, there used to be many large groups throughout the land. They are also becoming fewer because of the loss of their places to live.
