体坛英语资讯:China, Australia win two golds each at UCI track cycling World Cup

Of the seven gold medals at stake on the second day of the UCI track cycling World Cup, both China and Australia pocketed two apiece here on Saturday.

Australian teenager Megan Dunn came from nowhere to clinch the women's points race.

The 19-year-old Dunn, mainly competed in junior tournament before, was not among the favorites as she never managed to secure a top 10 finish in this season's World Cup series.

However she gained 13 points in the 80-lap, 20-km race to take the gold in the Laoshan Velodrome.

In the men's team pursuit, the Australian quartet Michael Hepburn, Luke Durbridge, Leigh Howard and Travis Meyer, clocked a winning time of 4 minutes 01.226 seconds to surpass the Dutch squad, who even did not finish the final.

However, Dutch Willy Kanis surged to victory in the women's 500-meter time trial final by edging out Chinese Gong Jinjie in 33.989 seconds.

Later on, Gong took a sweet revenge on Kanis in the women's team sprint event as she paired with Lin Junhong to win the gold in front of a jubilant local crowds.

Anna Meares of Australia grabbed two bronzes in the two events and added her total medals to three after she finished with a silver in the individual sprint on Friday.

Local rider Zhang Miao grabbed his second gold medal after winning the men's 1-kilometer time trial. He finished the four-lap race in 1 minute 02.173 seconds. On Friday, he also paired with Zhang Lei and Cheng Changsong to capture the men's team sprint title.

Zachary Bell of Canada also had his second gold after claiming the title of men's scratch. He surged a strong comeback in the penultimate lap, seizing the lead till the end of the 60-lap, 15km race.

The 28-year-old Canadian also cruised to the top podium a day before in the points race event.

Malaysian Azizulhasni Awang, representing professional team Bike Technologies Australia, took the gold in men's Keirin race. He rallied back in the last lap to dash past the finishing line first in the six-player final.
