本课您将学到:content(满意的),stay put(呆着别动),motel漫谈
Throughout their history, Americans have been people on the move(在行进中). The early immigrants had to travel to get to the New World. Once they arrived, they settled(安顿) along the East Coast. But they werent content to stay there. Explorers(探险家) and traders(商人) journeyed to the unknown western territories(领土). Later, settlers moved west to develop these new areas. As a result of this westward migration(迁徙), Americans eventually occupied the whole continent(大陆)-from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Even today, Americans seem unable to stay put. Research says that the average American moves every five years.
Besides their habit of changing addresses, Americans are used to traveling. Some people make long-distance commutes(通勤) to work daily. Their jobs may even require them to take frequent (频繁的)business trips. Most companies provide an annual(一年一次的) vacation for their employees, and people often use that time to travel. Some people just visit friends or relatives in distant states. Others go on low-budget weekend excursions(短途旅行) and stay in economy motels. Camping out in the great outdoors appeals to adventurous(爱冒险的) types. Some travel in recreational vehicles(野营旅游车) to camp out in comfort, while others rough it (将就一下)by sleeping in tents(帐篷).
(that the average American moves every five years)
She seems content to live with him.
He was content with his work.
(Besides their habit of changing addresses)美国人也很习惯旅行。(Americans are used to traveling)有些人每天上下班得做长距离的通勤,工作上甚至经常需要因公旅行。
Just stay put, all right? Ill come and find you.
所以 stay put 也就等于 Stay where you are. 或是 Dont move.
他是说 come and find you 而不是说 come to find you.中文里因为我们常讲「去作什么什么」,所以很自然的英文一出口就变成了 come to 事实上,come to 后面加的应该是名词,例如 come to my house, come to a park 等等,但是如果 come 后面接的是动词,中间应该用的是 and 连接,例如 come and pick you up, come and watch TV 等等。
