体坛英语资讯:Poland smash Tunisia at FIVB Volleyball Mens World Cup
WARSAW, Oct. 1 -- Polish team beat Tunisia in three straight sets on Tuesday, taking their first victory at the FIVB World Cup in Fukuoka, Japan.
The former world champions secured a third place at the European Championship a few days ago after an incredibly intense season, and Vital Heynen decided to give some rest to his stars and took to Japan a few young, unexperienced players, e.g. Jakub Popiwczak, Rafal Szymura and Tomasz Fornal.
The title favorites imposed the dominance from the first ball, showing a high quality, while Tunisia came out as the worthy opponents only in the second set.
However, after the good beginning of the African team, who were up 11-7, Poland reduced the gap with crucial points from an effective block and good spike by Bartosz Kwolek.
After losing two sets, Tunisia had no chance to be back into the game. Rafal Szymura, Bartosz Kwolek and Hamza Nagga were the best scorers with 10 points.
FIVB World Cup is played in Fukuoka, Nagano and Hiroshima. On Wednesday Poland will battle against the hosts Japan, while Tunisia wil take on Argentina.
