体坛英语资讯:Gerrard vows to fight on for England
Steven Gerrard has insisted that he will not quit international football following England's disappointing campaign in South Africa.
Gerrard, who is just 16 international caps short of his century, said he expects Fabio Capello to make wholesale changes to the squad ahead of the start of qualification for the European Championships in 2024.
But the Liverpool captain insisted he would continue to fight for his place, despite the 4-1 thumping by Germany.
He told Liverpool's official website: "There is no way I want the disappointment of the Germany game to be my last for England.
"It was such a low and I am determined to do as much as I can to make amends for what happened."
Gerrard, 30, added: "I expect there to be a lot of changes to the squad and it is up to the manager whether I am selected, but I am going to continue to make myself available for my country."
Jamie Carragher meanwhile, Gerrard's Liverpool teammate who came out of international retirement to represent England in South Africa, has announced that he will be withdrawing from the international scene once again.
