【2024模拟题】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。People believed for a long time that the heart was the center of a person's emotions. That is why the word "heart" is used in so many expressions about emotional situations.

One such expression is to "lose your heart" to someone. When that happens, you have fallen in love. But if the person who won your heart does not love you, then you are sure to have a "broken heart." In your pain and sadness, you may decide that the person you loved is "hard-hearted," and in fact, has a "heart of stone."

You may decide to "pour out your heart" to a friend. Telling someone about your personal problems can often make you feel better.

If your friend does not seem to understand how painful your broken heart is, you may ask her to "have a heart." You are asking your friend to show some sympathy for your situation. Your friend "has her heart in the right place" if she says she is sorry, and shows great concern for how you feel.

Your friend may, however, warn you not to "wear your heart on your sleeve." In other words, do not let everyone see how lovesick you are. When your heart is on your sleeve you are showing your deepest emotions.

If your friend says "my heart bleeds for you," she means the opposite. She is a cold-hearted person who does not really care about your situation.

In the ever-popular motion picture, "The Wizard of Oz,"(绿野仙踪) the Tin Man seeks a heart. He wanted to feel the emotion of love, and was seeking help from the powerful Wizard of Oz to find a heart.

The Cowardly Lion, in the same movie, did “have a heart”. But he lacked courage and wanted to ask the Wizard of Oz to give him some. You could say that the cowardly lion was "chicken-hearted." That is another way of describing someone who is not very brave. A chicken is not noted for its bravery. Thus, someone who is chicken-hearted does not have much courage.

When you are frightened or concerned, your "heart is in your mouth." You might say, for example, that your heart was in your mouth when you asked a bank to lend you some money to pay for a new house.

1.What is the main idea of the passage?

A.The heart was the center of a person's emotions.

B.There are many expressions about heart and what do they mean.

C.We should learn some expressions about “heart”.

D.It is important to learn some expressions about “heart”

2.How many expressions about “Heart” are mentioned in the passage?

  A.10

  B.8

  C.9

  D.11

.If you hear one of your family members is hurt in a traffic accident, you will feel ________.

  A.heart is in your mouth.

B.have your heart in the right place

  C. wear your heart on your sleeve

  D.lose your heart

.Why did the writer mention"The Wizard of Oz,"in the passage?

A.To show that it is ever popular.

B.To introduce a film to the readers

C.To give some more examples about the phrases.

D.To show that the Tin Man is not brave.

  -----4、B D A C

  解析

  1.主旨题:通读全文和第一段的内容:可知这篇文章讲的是和“heart”有关的表达和它们的含义。选B

2.细节题:整个文章介绍了11个有关“heart”的表达:"lose your heart","broken heart." ,"hard-hearted," , "heart of stone.", "pour out your heart" ,"have a heart." ,"has her heart in the right place" ,"wear your heart on your sleeve.", "my heart bleeds for you," ,"chicken-hearted.", 和"heart is in your mouth."所以选 D

.推理题:题目问:如果你听说一个家庭成员在交通事故中受伤,是什么感觉?从最后一段对heart is in your mouth 的解释,可知这是“心提到嗓子眼”的意思,表示担心,和语境相符合,选A

.写作意图题:在倒数第二段和第三段的内容:可知作者提到"The Wizard of Oz,", 举了the Tin Man 和The Cowardly Lion,的例子,是为了给出更多的关于“heart”的表达。选C

Many of us still tend to think that emotions can affect reasonablethought, and sometimes land us in trouble. But in recent

years psychologists have taken quite a different view.Keith Oatley,Professor of Psychology at Glasgow University,is involved in the research which shows the fundamental importance of emotions.

He believes we_are_very_ambivalent_about_them:we think of our emotions as being unreasonable, but we also consider them as essential to being human. For example,Mr Spock,a character in the television series Star Trek,is superintelligent and he has no emotions at all. However,he is never made captain of the spaceship.Maybe, this is because Mr Spock is not the kind of person you can share your feelings with—a person who shows his emotions.

As Professor Oatley points out,our emotions have very important functions, for example, fear. If we cross the road and a car approaches,we usually stop moving or step back.We stop what we are doing, check what we have done and pay very careful attention to the environment. The emotion of fear makes us take this small series of actions which,on average, help preserve our safety.

On the other hand,if things are going well and small problems come up,we find we can solve them with the resources we have to hand.As a consequence,we tend to feel happy and usually continue doing the job.

Anger is an emotion that tends to occur when someone is preventing

us from doing something. Then this small “kit” of reactions enables us to

prepare ourselves to be quite aggressive to that person,or to try harder, and so on.

Professor Oatley believes emotions generally occur at these important moments in actions. With fear and anger our emotions make us decide to start

doing something else, while with happiness they “suggest” we continue what we are already doing.

答案 B阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。One hometown owner in Detroit is intending to exchange his villa for the latest iPhone 6.

The owner has dropped the asking price from $ 5,000 to a new iPhone 6 as the owner is desperate to sell before the tax auction (拍卖) season where “thousands” of homes near foreclosure (房屋止赎权) will flood into the market, a real estate broker (房地产经纪人) called Larry Else told ABC News.

“This house is really not worth much at all,” Else said. The windows are broken and there is no front door. The broker himself has not been inside the home because his company has a policy of not going in unsecured houses alone. Detroit’s declining fortunes have left its population about a third of what it used to be in its peak, according to the U.S. Census Bureau(人口普查办公室).

Now, the property has accrued (拖欠) more than $6,000 in back taxes (退税款) and will enter foreclosure next year if that debt is not settled. So while the owner is asking for an iPhone 6, the true cost of the sale comes from the buyer including the cost of the back taxes.

That attracted great interest in the property, as Else said that he received four offers today alone. One woman said she was interested in the house for the wood. Another said that they would be willing to hand over an iPhone 5, and another offered $ 850. But Else hinted that the most likely buyer is someone who already lives on the block and put in a $ 700 bid(出价), and their familiarity with the area appeared to put them at the head of the pack. He said he expects one of the four offers to work out, and may even confirm the sale tonight.

This is not the end of his bartering (物物交换) business, however, as Else said that he’s already gotten another call from a homeowner who has had trouble selling their property.

1、Why did the owner drop his price for the house?

Because the house was too old.

Because there is a boom in economy.

Because he wanted to sell the house quickly.

Because the population in Detroit is small.

2、Larry Else hasn’t come into the house because _______.

it is dangerous to enter it

  the owner doesn’t permit it

he is not familiar with the area

it will break the company’s rule

3、The house will most possibly be sold at the price of _______.

  A. $ 5,000

  B. $ 850

  C. $ 700

  D. an iPhone 6

4、The passage is most probably taken from ________.

  A. a story book

  B. a news report

  C. an economy report

  D. a tourist brochure
