Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter Friday to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the taking effect of Paris Agreement on climate change.
In the letter, Xi said that thanks to joint efforts, the Paris Agreement became one of the fastest international accords in history to enter into force.
Xi stressed that international society has been devoted to boosting the agreement to become effective since it was signed in December 2024. China signed the agreement on April 22, the first day it was open to signature, and ratified it on Sept. 3.
Under the Chinese presidency, the first Presidency Statement on Climate Change throughout G20's history was issued, providing political support for the signing of the agreement.
Xi stressed that the Paris Agreement ushers in a new phase of international cooperation on fighting global warming. China, which upholds a development concept highlighting innovation, coordination, greenness, openness and sharing, will act positively and forcefully in promoting a low-carbon, recycling economy and combating climate change.
While expressing full confidence in the future global climate governance, Xi said China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with all parties concerned to help build a global climate-governing mechanism featuring cooperation, win-win results, reason and justice.
