体坛英语资讯:Nadal to compete at Montreal Masters next month
Rafael Nadal has decided to come back for training next Monday and compete at Montreal Masters in August as he recovers from tendinitis in his knees, according to a statement on his website Tuesday.
Nadal had medical tests today in Barcelona, said the statement.
"He is slowly recovering from his injury, will resume practice next Monday and will reappear at the Montreal event on August 8," it added.
The 23-year-old Spaniard has been suffering from tendinitis in both knees aggravated by a gruelling schedule of clay court matches and was forced to give up the defence of his Wimbledon title before the tournament started.
Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal (L) sits with Chief Executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club Ian Ritchie during a news conference at Wimbledon in London June 19, 2009. Nadal pulled out of Wimbledon on Friday after losing his battle to recover from a knee injury.
“I am happy with the way the tests went and of the positive evolution of the injury as the doctors are saying,” Nadal said on his Web site. “I am really looking forward to practice again and to do again what I most like: to play tennis.”
The Montreal tournament is part of the ATP’s Masters series and a warm-up for the U.S. Open, the only Grand Slam event Nadal has yet to win.
